ExperiencesI read for my Ph.D. (2007) in Biology from Boston University USA, working on the evolution and systematics of a newly discovered radiation of nearly 100 species of frogs from Sri Lanka. Next, I was a Ziff Environmental Post Doctoral Fellow at the Harvard University Center for the Environment (HUCE) and the Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) for two years. In early 2010, I joined the University of Peradeniya serving as Professor where I was carrying out research in systematics and evolutionary biology. I have published over 50 papers in SCI-journals, including in Science. Among the notable awards are Frank A. Belamarich award for outstanding doctoral research (Dept. of Biology, Boston University), Top 10 Species award, and several Presidential Awards for Research (Sri Lanka). I serve as a Co-Chair for the Amphibian Specialist Group Sri Lanka (ASG/IUCN/SSC) and is a member of the IUCN Redlisting Authority. Two species, a freshwater loach (Schistura madhavai) and a Fairy Orchid (Oberonia meegaskumburae) both endemic to Sri Lanka, are named after me. I am currently a Professor and PI of the Eco-Evo-Devo lab group at the State Key Lab and the International Group of the College of Forestry at Guangxi University, China, working with an international group of scholars and graduate students.
